Our very own Danielle Lawrie & Jen Salling lead University of Washington "Huskies" to NCAA Women's College World Series Championship!!!

(Oklahoma City, OK) - Softball Canada would like to congratulate Danielle Lawrie (Langley, BC) and Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) who have helped the University of Washington Huskies (51-12) win the best-of-three NCAA Women's College World Series over the University of Florida Gators (63-5). Lawrie pitched all four games of the Double Elimination Bracket play to lead Washington to the best-of-three final, where she earned both wins in the pitcher's circle over #1 ranked Florida as Washington swept the series 2-0. Lawrie beat the Gators for three of their five losses this season, including two shutouts.

In the last game, Lawrie contributed two hits and an RBI at the plate as the cleanup hitter, but gave up two early runs (one earned) in the first inning. She cruised the rest of the way with a few close calls, but managed to strike out the last two batters in the top of the seventh with a runner on second to cap off a magnificent season.

Jenn Salling also played a big role as Washington's starting shortstop and third hitter. In Game 1 against Florida, she had a two-run single to help Washington to an 8-0 win, and also added a hit in Game 2.

After winning the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award last week, Lawrie added more hardware as the Women's College World Series Most Outstanding Player.

Congratulations to the University of Washington Huskies and both Canadians!
