2024 Age Change:
Softball, at the BC Summer Games, had historically been open to athletes in the U16 age category. This category integrated the appropriate stage of Long Term Athlete Development with an age category where pitching distance and base paths were consistent.
Following the 2019 LTAD review and subsequent changes to age categories in 2020, Softball BC determined that we would continue with U16 as the age cutoff for the 2022 BC Summer Games, thereby including athletes born in 2006 to compete at those Games.
After reviewing those Games, the decision was made to move the age category to U15 for the 2024 BC Summer Games and beyond for the following reasons
- compliant with Softball Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Model (Train to Train)
- One recognized age category with consistent pitching distances and field dimensions
- pathway to Canada Summer Games was logical and age appropriate
